Windows Phone 7 Development - Getting Started

When you visit the MSDN developer portal for Windows Phone 7, the first link is a demo of the phone and the second link is to download the developer tools. The demo glorifies all of the new features of the Windows Phone 7. When you download the developer tools, one of the tools installed is the Windows phone emulator and ironically, when you bring it up, it comes up with just one tile - Internet Explorer. Now that is really confusing. How are you going to test your applications with the various features promised by the demo one link above?

So let us clean up some confusion. It is not that Microsoft has not made efforts in getting us a world class development platform for the Windows Phone 7. It is just that the information is scattered around everywhere. Here are a few things that may help you to wrap your head around:
