Since the address bar and search have been combined in one control in IE9 it is a little different to setup search provider from how it was done in IE7 or IE8. Here is how you can accomplish this in the beta release.

  • Click on the dropdown button in the address/search control.
  • Locate & click the 'Add' button at the bottom of the list (opposite the bing icon)
  • Click 'Add to Internet Explorer'button next to Google search suggestions' from the add-ons that appear on the page.
  • If you would like to make this your default search provider, make sure to check the option 'Make this my default search provider'.
  • Click 'Add'
  •

You are done. You can now search using Google as your search provider.

Alternatively you can add/manage search providers using the 'Manage add-ons' option from the settings menu. You will have to select 'Search Providers' on the left side in the 'Add-on Types' list. There is a link at the bottom of the screen 'Find more search providers...' which brings you to step 3 above.
